You may notice on our website that there is IK rating in our specification sheet for our products. The most of lighting luminaire manufacturers are requested to do IK level test (Impact Protection). What does the IK rating mean ?

Well, IK is Inverse kinematics for short.

IK Rating is an international numeric classification to indicate the degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment against external mechanical impacts. It provides a means of specifying the capacity of an enclosure to protect its contents from external impacts in accordance with the European standard EN 62262 – the equivalent of international standard IEC 62262:2002 and IEC 60068-2-75:1997.

So in essence it tells you how resistant to an external impact/shock a product is and therefore helps you choose the right product for the right job. We hope this will help you to make decision.

IK00 - Not Protected

IK01 - Protected against 0.14 joules of impact, which is equivalent to the impact of a 0.25 kg mass dropped from 56 mm above the impacted surface.

IK02 - Protected against 0.2 joules of impact, it is equivalent to the impact of a 0.25 kg mass dropped from 80 mm above the impacted surface.

IK03 - Protected against 0.35 joules of impact, equivalent to the impact of a 0.2 kg mass dropped from 140 mm above the impacted surface.

IK04 - Protected against 0.5 joules of impact that is equivalent to the impact of a 0.25 kg mass dropped from 200 mm above the impacted surface.

IK05 - Protected against 0.7 joules of impact , which is equivalent to the impact of a 0.25 kg mass dropped from 280 mm above the impacted surface.

IK06 - Protected against 1 joules of impact, equivalent to the impact of a 0.25 kg mass dropped from 400 mm above the impacted surface.

IK07 - Protected against 2 joules of impact, which is equivalent to the impact of a 0.5 kg mass dropped from 400 mm above the impacted surface.

IK08 - Protected against 5 joules of impact that is equivalent to the impact of a 1.7 kg mass dropped from 300 mm above the impacted surface.

IK09 - Protected against 10 joules of impact ,it is equivalent to the impact of a 5 kg mass dropped from 200 mm above the impacted surface.

IK10 - Protected against 20 joules of impact, which is equivalent to the impact of a 5 kg mass dropped from 400 mm above the impacted surface.
